Merton 'Sparkles' at Rugby

This week saw the Upper school sports teams in action again.

On Tuesday 8e Year 5's went to the 'Sparkling' Rugby tournament at Overton Rugby Club. It was a really hot day and the sun shone on our Rugby stars.  We had a tough first match as they were thrown straight in as soon as they put their bags down and had back to back matches, needless to say the Year 5's were just a little bit tired after the 2 straight games.

The mixed team of boys and girls soon started to find their feet and started scoring tries using their secret code word 'pocket rocket' which sent one of the boys flying down the wings.

Our last two matches were a great show of the spirit of the tournament and the friendliness of the schools we played against too. Mrs Chillmaid and Miss Miles were extremely proud of them all.

Thursday saw Mr Sherman and Miss Miles take a group of Year 5's to the start of the Summer League Hockey at Down Grange.  We had 2 mixed teams and for some of the children, it was their first time of playing both hockey competitively and as a team. We say it lots but Merton really have a team spirit and play to enjoy the experience. That doesn't mean that they don't want to win because the competitive side came out of them and the goals started flowing. We had some really great result but the best thing they all came home with was the massive smiles on their faces. Here's to the next 2 rounds of the league :-)
