  • Year 5/6 Athletics competition

Tue 30 Jan 2024 Jack Rowland

Today, we took 12 children to Costello school for an athletics tournament. We were facing 6 other schools from our local division. The boys were first up for track events (1, 2 or 3 lengths of the hall). We won every race. While this was happening, the girls were smashing out the field events (long & triple jump, chest throw, javelin, bean bag throw & speed bounce) and really showed how they had taken on board tips and tricks from the practise sessions run by Mr Thompson.

They then swapped over. The girls had a really tough group, but still managed to win 2 of the running races. While the boys also put in a super effort in less familiar events! Finally they all did some relay races (which we have luckily had lots of practice with) and here they really did do Merton proud.

Overall it was a fabulous afternoon. Their attitude and behaviour was amazing.

And we topped the day off with coming 3rd (by only 2 points) which means we MIGHT be going to the next round for Hampshire!

  • Year 3/4 Football match

Tue 30 Jan 2024 Jack Rowland

Our first ever Year 3/4 football team played their first league match of this season today! Representing their school for the first time, this new found team should be proud of their perseverance, determination and eagerness to play while only being newly formed. We look forward to working closely as a club after school next term before our next fixture arrives!

Keep smiling boys you did great!

  • Year 5/6 Girls Football Match vs. Park View

Fri 26 Jan 2024 Jack Rowland

Wow! What a way to end a week! Our Girls Football team were out playing away today against Park View Junior School. With a few unlucky shots in the first quarter, the girls began to collaborate more and really started to develop well as a team until the final whistle blew.

The team made some excellent tackles, passed the ball into the wider channels and started to put the pressure back onto the opposition as the match developed! Special shout out to Bella who was a force to be reckoned with in defence and Emma for making some fabulous saves. The girls, although defeated, came away feeling accomplished that they had left it all on the pitch and showed how far they had come as a team. Keep working hard girls as we move towards our next fixture after half term!

  • Basketball Competition 4.12.23

Mon 04 Dec 2023 Jack Rowland

The Merton basketball team was fantastic today. They represented our school wonderfully. They showed respect, played hard, congratulated their opposition and were all round super stars.

The tournament had 2 groups, we were in the larger group, and therefore had more games to play.

We won our group and went through to the semi finals. We played (in Mr Thompson's opinion) the best team. We finished the 8 minutes at 2-2. The final throw (from us) went into the hoop, but the umpires unfortunately didn't count it.

We then had a free throw sudden death...

After 7 throws, we were still at a stalemate.

Their 8th throw went in and sadly ours didn't.

We came away with an almighty 3rd place with all 7 players that should be VERY proud of themselves! Well done to all involved!

  • Girls vs boys football

    Tue 18 Jul 2023 Miss I Knowles

We had our girls vs boys football match today!

The children asked for it and they got it. We played the whole girls team and the boys were in charge of who played and for how long.

There was some great teamwork between all players and it was played as fair as possible.

A huge well done to both teams and a good luck for next year to the Year 6's.

  • Staff vs Year 6 rounders

    Tue 18 Jul 2023 Miss I Knowles

Another year has passed since our infamous rounders match with the Year 6's vs the staff.

Over 12 years the staff have held their rein, and this year is no different. The staff won again with 18 rounders and the Year 6's scoring 10.5.

The year 6's were fantastic and the Year 5's who helped the staff were also brilliant.

Let's see if next year they can finally beat the staff...

  • Boys football final match 22/23

    Tue 18 Jul 2023 Miss I Knowles

Despite facing a loss for our final game, the boys' football team remains undeniably amazing. Throughout the entire season, their performance has been nothing short of incredible. Their unwavering dedication, skillful plays, and exceptional teamwork have been fantastic. Despite the outcome, the team's resilience and spirit shine brightly, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed their remarkable journey. This season will undoubtedly be remembered as a testament to their determination and sportsmanship. I am so proud of these boys for the season and the challenges they have all faced.

Boys, keep playing and keep loving football!
