What an amazing term we have had so far in Year 5! This term children have been learning all about World War 2 in our amazing topic 'Through The Eyes Of A Child.' Year 5 have looked at the very moving diary of Anne Frank and even written their own diary entries from her perspective. They were absolutely fantastic and all the teacher have been blown away by the emotion and detail all of the children have put in.

Year 5 also had the opportunity to go on a wonderful trip to Milestones Museum. They had a wonderful experience, looking at all the different buildings and learning about what life was like during World War Two. The classrooms and schools were certainly different! The children were very surprised at the lack of technology in the classroom!

What a busy term Year 5 have had so far! From learning all about space and different forces, to a fantastic trip to Intech Space Centre in Winchester! The children loved the planetarium experience and getting the opportunity to explore all of the universe (and even some bits we didn't know about!). During the workshops, we looked at changing states of matter. The children were overjoyed to make their very own slime, even though it did get a bit messy! Lots more exciting trips coming up throughout the year!

The Year 5 team are looking forward to all the children starting life in Upper School! Our first topic, ‘The Spider and the Fly’ will look at the rather illusive spider as he attempts to catch the naive fly. We will explore children’s writing skills looking at a range of different writing structures and create some wonderful wanted posters in order to help hunt down the spider! ‘May The Force Be With You’ is an out of this world topic, exploring the wonders of space with an insightful trip to Intech Science Centre in Winchester as well!

It has been fantastic to see all of Year 5 return from their summer break, bright eyed and bushy tailed! They have all settled in really well and it has been wonderful to hear about everything they have been getting up to over the last 6 weeks.

Year 5 will be made up of three fantastic classes this year. Mr Sherman (Year Group Leader) will be in Ash class, Mrs Garside will be in Elm class and Miss Batchelor will be in Holly class. The LSA’s in the year group will be Mrs Gerrard, Miss Rogers and Mrs Bungaro.
