A very warm welcome back to all of our Year 4 children and their families! We hope you have had a fantastic summer and are feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting year of learning, challenges and adventures.

As we begin the new school year, our first few weeks will have a strong transition focus, helping the children settle back into their familiar routines and feel confident in their new Year 4 classrooms. Although they are now our more experienced members of Key Stage 2, coming back together after the summer is an important opportunity to reconnect, rebuild relationships and get back into the rhythm of school life.

Our transition work will begin with a focus on the wonderful picture book ‘The Dot’ by Peter H. Reynolds. Through the story, we will explore themes of confidence, creativity, perseverance and having a go, encouraging the children to think about what they can achieve when they believe in themselves. We will use this as an opportunity to celebrate individuality, take creative risks and remind ourselves that sometimes the most important thing is simply to make a start!

Once we are settled back into our routines, we will embark on our first exciting topic of the year: ‘Land of Fire and Ice’! 🌋❄️

This geography and art-based topic will take us on a journey to the spectacular country of Iceland. We will explore its dramatic landscapes, investigate how volcanoes are formed and discover why Iceland is known as the ‘Land of Fire and Ice’. From fiery volcanoes and bubbling geothermal areas to glaciers, waterfalls and incredible landscapes, there will be plenty to spark our curiosity!

Alongside our geographical learning, we will use art to capture the power and beauty of Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, experimenting with colour, texture and different artistic techniques.

We are looking forward to seeing our Year 4 children grow in confidence, creativity and independence throughout the year. Welcome back, Year 4 – let's make our mark! 🎨🌋
